Bhumi welcomes the Month of February as Bhumi’s Upcycling Month  which aims to raise environmental awareness by celebrating the concept of upcycling through various initiatives. With a little hard work and imagination, every used product can be given a new life with a purpose.

What is Upcycling?

Upcycling is “The act of taking something no longer in use and giving it a second life and new function. In doing so, the finished product often becomes more practical, valuable and beautiful than what it previously was.”

A fast growing population, urbanization and changing consumer lifestyles have led to a global crisis. At Bhumi, we believe that giving is aspirational and built upon a belief that our contributions can advance humanity, help communities overcome challenges, create solutions and empower individuals.

FAQ

One fundamental difference between the two is the process.

In recycling, the waste product is completely broken down to its base materials, whereas in upcycling the product is altered to make something completely new without breaking it down.is the breakdown process that leaves carbon footprints. For instance, plastic can be recycled only when it is shredded into small pieces in a shredder. The shredder machine runs on power, thus increasing the carbon footprint.

It takes less energy to upcycle the parent product than creating a new product from scratch. Upcycling also elongates the lifespan of the product before it reaches the landfill.

You can initiate this eco movement any date in the month of February,2023.

There is no limit set in terms of the number of staff/teacher/student facilitators a school can have for facilitating the activities. A school/college can have a reasonable number of facilitators based on the number of students who are going to be taking part in the activities.
