How did volunteering with Bhumi happen?
I came to know about Bhumi through internet when I was searching for NGOs to utilize my weekends effectively. I started volunteering with Bhumi on 10 Dec 2017 for an event – Riding for a cause (for Vittasandra Village development).
Share your experience in the ‘Riding for a cause’ event.
Cycling is my Hobby. But doing it for a cause comes with an experience way beyond just an ordinary ride. Accompanied by fully supportive volunteers, meeting new people, learning new things on each ride, and having fun – this is a total package and is an amazing experience. I got me to meet many inspiring people.
What change did these experiences bring in your life? How has Bhumi altered you, personally?
Volunteering with Bhumi changed my life a lot. It helped me to overcome many of my weak points, from shyness to interacting with people and taking responsibilities. The volunteering experience gave me a purpose beyond my own self.
Tell us about one Bhumian, who has been an inspiration.
There are many inspiring Bhumians I have met in this short period with Bhumi. I would like to mention one name here, Chenthil, an active volunteer who constantly motivates and encourages me to take new challenging responsibilities. It was a great pleasure to meet him. I admire his desire and hard work to contribute selflessly to the society.
Any specific, special moment with kids or volunteers you would like to share with us?
A special moment with Bhumi is celebrating Ugadi festival at Vittasandra village, as a part of Village Development programme organized under Riding for a Cause event. To see enthusiastic villagers and excited kids play fun games, it was an amazing experience. We also prepared Payasam (or Kheer – a variety of sweet) which makes my mouth watery every time I remember.
