Pace for Purpose: 21kms of Giving

“Join me as I lace up for my first-ever half marathon in January 2024. With each stride of this marathon, I carry the spirit of our community and the belief that together, we can craft a world where every child has the chance to learn, grow, and excel. Ready to run with me?”- Vaishnavi Srinivasan, Executive Director- Bhumi

My body is weary, every muscle singing with the sweet ache of triumph as I conquer the race. The sun above mirrors my joy, casting its warm glow across Chennai’s skyline. But suddenly…………

“Vaish, wake up! It’s time for your morning run!” Dr. Prahalathan’s voice (Prahal, as I fondly call him) ripples through my dream, pulling me back to reality.

But wait, it’s not a dream. Come January 2024, I’m all set to lace up my shoes and embark on my first-ever half marathon. It’s a symbolic stride towards a larger purpose as I am fundraising 21 lakhs for Bhumi, where my journey of giving and growth began.

The excitement is palpable, the energy infectious.

I enjoy running; it’s a space where I find solace, strength, and a profound connection with myself. It’s a metaphor for the marathon we run in life and the impact we can create by moving forward with purpose. I embrace a personal challenge as I lace up my shoes for my first half marathon. I am using the opportunity to amplify the impact we can create when we channel our passions toward a greater purpose.

I began volunteering with Bhumi in 2007 by teaching computers at a shelter home. My experiences were so heartening and fulfilling that in early 2012, I transitioned into a full-time role. Today, I lead education programs that benefit thousands of children in hundreds of government schools across India.

Our mission at Bhumi is to enable volunteering and access to holistic education at scale. I have witnessed the transformative power of education in the lives of many children. It serves as a reminder that every child deserves a quality education. One that transcends socio-economic constraints nurtures young minds, and provides the tools to build a sustainable future.

Fostering volunteering as a national habit has been a cornerstone of our work at Bhumi. The roots of sustainable change lie in collective action. Bhumi provides spaces for young volunteers to blossom into leaders. It’s a space where ideas are nurtured, initiatives supported, and individuals empowered to drive change. It’s inspiring to see a community of passionate individuals leading a positive impact and weaving stories of change.

We foster a culture that encourages ownership, nurturing care, and collaboration at Bhumi. It has paved the way for the growth and empowerment of countless children and young adults in India.

The decision to run for Bhumi was an intuitive one. It’s a venture to merge my love for running with my commitment to the organization that has been the bedrock of my journey. The goal of raising 21 lakhs is a symbolic representation of the 21 kilometers I will conquer. It’s a testament to the belief that every step, no matter how small, contributes to something greater. The fundraiser will support Bhumi’s Whole-School Transformation Programme, which works with children, teachers, HMs, and parents from government schools.

The Whole-School Transformation Programme embodies our dedication to offering a world-class education, ensuring our students are ready to navigate the future. It extends beyond traditional teaching, delving into realms of holistic development, infrastructure development, technological integration, and inclusive education. Currently touching the lives of 36K+ students and 500+ educators across 200+ schools in multiple states.

This New Year, join me in embracing the power of giving. ‘Give’ your time and energy. Volunteer. Donate to causes that resonate with you. Together, we can create positive change that resonates far beyond the finish line. Here is the link to my fundraiser – https://give.do/fundraisers/pace-for-purpose-21kms-of-giving
