Bhumi launched ‘Namma18,’ a community volunteering initiative on January 26, 2023 with the idea of making every pin code in the city – a happy place to work, live, and play. This project aims to bring together the residents of Chennai 600018 to connect, communicate, collaborate and contribute to bringing a positive change in their neighbourhood.
Bhumi partnered and connected with nearly a hundred local organisations, resident associations, and other citizen groups to make this idea a reality.
“Many problems in our locality that are seen through the lens of the government and social services can be resolved by volunteering in one’s own community. A stronger, more unified, and safer community can be created through volunteerism. While expanding the social network to connect neighbourhoods, it also encourages people to take an active role in civic engagement and citizenship concerns. Our Namma18 initiative is an attempt to create that ‘model community’ by inculcating the culture of volunteerism in every resident of Chennai 600018”, says Dr.Prahalathan K K, Co-founder of Bhumi.
Volunteers involved in causes closer to their hearts such as beautifying the nearby walking park, feeding animals on the street, tree plantation, painting the classrooms in a government school and preparing food packets for over 2,000 needy people.
