Sristi Soni: A Journey of Kindness, Craft, and Community Service

Sristi Soni, a young and dynamic volunteer from Kolkata, is a true embodiment of dedication, passion, and creativity. Born and raised in Kolkata, Sristi’s journey from a shy student to a vibrant Bhumi volunteer is a story of transformation and inspiration.

A Professional with a Heart for Service

By profession, Sristi is a qualified Chartered Accountant and Company Secretary. She currently serves as a Senior Associate at PwC Acceleration Centers. Despite her demanding career, Sristi finds time to contribute to her community through Bhumi, where she has been an active volunteer since 2019.

Her introduction to Bhumi was serendipitous. During her time at St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata, she needed to complete 30 hours of mandatory social service to graduate. Sristi chose to volunteer at an old age home, where she engaged in decorating, organizing books, and assisting the elderly. The joy and fulfillment she experienced during this period sparked a lasting commitment to volunteering.

Passionate About People and Arts

Sristi’s hobbies and interests reflect her vibrant personality. She loves talking to people, listening to their stories, and sharing her own experiences. In a world where many feel isolated, Sristi’s genuine interest in others brings comfort and connection. “Talking to people and hearing their stories is something I cherish. It helps me understand different perspectives and gain valuable insights”, she says.

Her creative side shines through her love for arts and crafts. Sristi is also passionate about fashion designing. She enjoys stitching and designing her own clothes, a skill that not only satisfies her creative urges but also adds a personal touch to her wardrobe. Although she is not very active on social media, her creations speak volumes about her talent and dedication.

The Bhumi Experience

Sristi’s journey with Bhumi has been marked by growth and transformation. Initially joining to complete her college requirements, she found a deeper calling in the organization’s mission. Today, she is the Chapter Support Team (CST) member for Catalyse in Kolkata, a role that has honed her leadership skills and expanded her network.

One of Sristi’s favorite Bhumi initiatives is the Seva Sandwich drive. This project, which involves preparing and distributing sandwiches to underprivileged individuals, holds a special place in her heart. “The teamwork involved in chopping vegetables, spreading mixtures, and packing sandwiches is amazing. It’s a collective effort that brings joy and satisfaction.”, she shares.

The drive not only fosters teamwork but also challenges societal norms. Seeing boys and girls alike participating in tasks traditionally assigned to women, like chopping and preparing food, is a refreshing change. The immediate impact of this initiative is evident in the smiles of those who receive the sandwiches. “The joy on their faces when they eat the sandwiches is incredibly fulfilling,” Sristi adds.

Inspirations and Aspirations

Sristi draws inspiration from the leaders at Bhumi and her parents. The leaders she works with at Bhumi are her source of motivation. Their hard work and dedication inspire Sristi to give her best. Her parents, who have always shown kindness and care towards others, have instilled in her the values of compassion and empathy.

Despite her achievements, Sristi remains grounded and continues to strive for personal and professional growth. She believes in the transformative power of education and is passionate about empowering the underprivileged through knowledge and skills.

A Glimpse into Sristi’s World

Sristi’s life is a blend of professional excellence, creative pursuits, and heartfelt service. Her favorite comfort food is Daal-Chawal, a simple yet satisfying dish that requires minimal effort to prepare. She doesn’t indulge in quirky food combinations but finds joy in the little things, like sharing chocolates with friends and colleagues.

Her journey with Bhumi has not only enriched her life but also brought about a positive change in the community. From a shy student to a confident leader, Sristi’s story is a testament to the power of volunteering and the impact of small acts of kindness.
