Salini Kumari, a dynamic young volunteer from Patna, Bihar, has a journey that embodies resilience, commitment, and the spirit of selfless service. Recently recognized and nominated for the prestigious iVolunteer Awards 2024, Salini’s dedication to various social causes through Bhumi has earned her accolades and admiration. Humble Beginnings and a Heart for Volunteering
Coming from a military family background, Salini completed her schooling at Army Public School in Patna, where her father served as an army personnel. Salini’s passion for volunteering was sparked early on, during her ninth grade, when a local NGO introduced her to the world of social service. Intrigued and inspired, Salini found her purpose in contributing to society and began searching for avenues to pursue her interest in volunteering.
Her quest led her to Bhumi in 2022, where her journey as a changemaker began. Salini’s first opportunity was not as a regular volunteer but as an Event Coordinator for a clean-up drive highlighting her natural leadership abilities and her readiness to take initiative. With zeal, she coordinated impactful events such as the Sandwich Seva and Pad Distribution Drives, ensuring her efforts reached the most marginalized sections of society.
Rising through Challenges and Embracing Leadership
Salini’s path wasn’t always smooth. She faced a medical emergency, which temporarily halted her participation in Bhumi’s events. However, her determination remained unshaken. She never left Bhumi and the break gave her time to regain strength and return stronger to fulfill my responsibilities.
True to her word, Salini resumed volunteering with vigor, taking up the mantle of leadership with every new opportunity. Her journey took a pivotal turn when she was appointed as the Catalyse HR, a role in which she managed human resources for Bhumi’s Catalyse program. This experience deepened her connection with her work and allowed her to coordinate impactful initiatives at an old age home, where she witnessed the bittersweet emotions of elderly residents longing for companionship.
In 2023, Salini was promoted to Overall LB HR role, where she led a chapter in Patna. Under her leadership, the team conducted several initiatives, including distributing sanitary pads to rural women. For Salini, this project stands out as a defining moment, reinforcing her belief in empowering women with dignity and health awareness.
A Legacy of Hope and Empowerment
Salini’s dedication goes beyond event coordination; it’s driven by a larger vision of empowerment through education. “The youth are the pillars of society.”, she asserts. “If they are empowered with quality education, we can create a developed and just society.” Salini’s work at Bhumi reflects this belief. She actively promotes Bhumi’s Ignite program during orientations, urging young volunteers to spend their time fostering the career aspirations of underprivileged children.
Notably, Salini played a key role in organizing Bhumi’s Nakshatra event in Patna which brought together over 500 children to participate in arts, sports, and cultural competitions, creating a nurturing space for self-expression and growth. For Salini, this event remains one of the most memorable highlights of her volunteering journey.
A Personal Philosophy of Self-Care and Reflection
Outside of volunteering, Salini is an advocate of self-care. She enjoys singing, cooking, reading, and meditation – activities that help her connect with her inner self. She believes in the importance of self-care, stating, “If you are happy, then only you can make others happy.” Her mantra of living for others encapsulates her selfless spirit and commitment to creating a positive impact in her community.
Looking Ahead and Striving for New Heights
Salini’s aspirations extend beyond her volunteering efforts. She dreams of trying skydiving and climbing Mount Everest – adventures that reflect her fearless and ambitious spirit. Inspired by her father’s service in the army and her exposure to the scenic beauty of northern India, Salini is drawn to challenges that test her endurance and resilience. Her biggest motivation in life come from her supportive family.
