Rachit Das: A Journey of Dedication and Impact at Bhumi

From the bustling city of Kolkata, a young software developer named Rachit Das stands as a lighthouse of hope and transformation. With a background in Computer Engineering, Rachit currently works as a software developer. His journey with Bhumi, however, began much earlier, in August 2020, when a serendipitous Instagram post led him to the organization that would become his second family.

Rachit’s introduction to Bhumi was driven by his passion for making a difference. He was inspired by Bhumi’s multifaceted approach to social causes, including education for the underprivileged, hunger relief, and child welfare. This holistic mission resonated with Rachit, propelling him to join the organization and contribute his skills and time.

Beyond his professional life, Rachit is an avid football enthusiast and a talented guitarist. His favorite player, Ronaldo, symbolizes the determination and excellence that Rachit strives to embody in all aspects of his life. Rachit’s leisure time is often spent on the football field or strumming his guitar, creating a balance between his work, volunteering, and personal passions.

One of the most profound impacts Rachit has had at Bhumi is through the Kanini project, which focuses on imparting computer education to underprivileged children. Rachit recalls the initial challenges he faced when teaching children who had never seen or used a computer. Despite these hurdles, his persistence and dedication paid off. Recently, two of his students, who once struggled to operate a mouse, are now confidently managing computer systems in a café.

Rachit’s love for travel is another facet of his dynamic personality. His time in Dehradun during his bachelor’s degree allowed him to explore the mountains, igniting a lifelong passion for travel. One of his most memorable adventures was a temple trek in Uttarakhand, where he traversed five challenging mountains to reach a remote, sacred site. This adventurous spirit is also reflected in his bucket list, which includes skydiving and a road trip to Leh-Ladakh.

An interesting quirk about Rachit is his unique food preference – Maggi with Roti. This unusual combination became a staple during his hostel days and remains a nostalgic comfort food. His love for Bengali cuisine also shines through, with traditional dishes holding a special place in his heart.

At Bhumi, Rachit has not only made an impact on the children he teaches but has also formed deep bonds with his fellow volunteers. The emotional farewell from his students, who returned to meet him one last time after completing their board exams, is a heartwarming reminder of the profound connections he has forged.

Rachit believes in the transformative power of education. He envisions a world where every individual, regardless of their socio-economic status, has access to basic education. This belief drives his efforts at Bhumi, where he strives to bridge the educational gap for underprivileged children.

To Rachit, Bhumi is more than just an organization; it is a family. The friendships he has built and the shared mission of creating a better world bind him to Bhumi in a special way. His journey is a powerful reminder of the impact one dedicated individual can have on countless lives.
