A Journey of Passion, Purpose, and Volunteering: Meet Nikita Jain
Today’s edition of Humans of Bhumi celebrates the inspiring journey of Nikita Jain, Lead – Civic Volunteering (Programs) at Bhumi. Nikita’s path is one marked by a love for education, creativity, and a deep-rooted commitment to social impact. With a knack for embracing opportunities and challenges alike, she continues to make a meaningful difference in the lives of many.
Rooted in Learning and Creativity
Nikita hails from Haryana but was born and brought up in Delhi, where she pursued her education and began her professional journey. A dedicated scholar, she holds an undergraduate degree in education and two master’s degrees, one completed in education and another in history, which she is currently wrapping up. Alongside her academic pursuits, Nikita’s passion for the arts led her to the National School of Drama, where she honed her skills as a theater enthusiast. Though she now engages with theater more passively, her creative instincts continue to shine through her work.
One of Nikita’s standout achievements was co-creating a theater-based educational curriculum called ‘Hug Your Heart’. Funded by The Circle India, this innovative project was recognized as one of the top models of educational innovation across the country. “Theater taught me the power of storytelling and the importance of emotional connection,” she shares. These values resonate in her role at Bhumi, where she leads with empathy and ingenuity.
Finding Meaning at Bhumi
Nikita’s journey to Bhumi was one of self-discovery and intentionality. Reflecting on her early 20s, she recalls a pivotal moment: “I realized it was time to choose a role where I wouldn’t have to struggle to find meaning.” She sought guidance from former Bhumi volunteers and was encouraged by their glowing accounts of the organization’s culture and values.
Having volunteered extensively during her college days and inspired by her father’s active participation in community service, Nikita felt an instant alignment with Bhumi’s mission. Her decision to join was a natural progression of her desire to combine her passion for education with her commitment to creating systemic change.
Prior to Bhumi, Nikita was a Teach For India fellow, an experience that deepened her understanding of grassroots challenges in education. At Bhumi, she found a platform that not only allowed her to channel her expertise but also provided a supportive environment to grow personally and professionally.
A Multifaceted Personality
Beyond her professional commitments, Nikita’s vibrant personality shines through her eclectic interests. She is an avid reader, often immersing herself in books that spark curiosity and introspection. Known for her love of quirky activities, she takes delight in making her friends take unconventional personality tests and exploring vegetarian bakeries in search of the perfect treat.
Her love for travel is another defining aspect of her life. “At the start of every year, I map out all the long weekends and plan my vacations,” she laughs, highlighting her meticulous approach to balancing work and leisure. Adventure also calls to her; in recent years, she’s checked off cliff jumping, bungee jumping, and rafting from her bucket list. While skydiving remains a daunting dream, her fearless spirit suggests it won’t stay unchecked for long.
Culinary Quirks and Family Ties
Nikita’s culinary tastes are as unique as her personality. She swears by an unusual snack – Monaco biscuits dipped in chocolate and frozen. On a more whimsical note, she enjoys eating raw cumin seeds, a habit she laughingly admits is peculiar but comforting.
Family plays an integral role in her life. She is close to her parents and shares a playful bond with her younger brother, whom she describes as both “annoying” and endearing. “Family keeps you grounded,” she reflects, emphasizing the importance of nurturing personal connections.
Driven by Purpose
Nikita’s hobbies often intersect with her passion for volunteering. From designing STEM-integrated curriculums to distributing hygiene kits and clean meals, she dedicates her weekends to causes close to her heart. Her focus areas – education and good health and well-being underscore her belief in creating a holistic impact.
“Volunteering has always been a part of my life,” she says. “It’s about doing your bit, however small, to make the world a better place.” This ethos is what makes her a true ChangeDriver at Bhumi, inspiring her peers and the community to strive for a brighter future.
A Legacy of Impact
As Nikita continues her journey at Bhumi, her story serves as our shining reminder to the power of passion, perseverance, and purpose. Whether through her innovative projects, her creative pursuits, or her commitment to volunteering, she embodies the spirit of making a difference.
Nikita’s advice to others? “Find what aligns with your values and go for it wholeheartedly. Life is too short to settle for anything less than meaningful.” #HumansOfBhumi
