From Bhumi Volunteer to Social Changemaker: Khagendra Tiwari’s Inspiring Journey
In 2016, Khagendra Tiwari joined Bhumi with a simple goal – meeting new people and making productive use of his time. What began as a weekend commitment soon became a defining chapter in his life. From teaching Mathematics to children in shelter homes to leading Civic Volunteering initiatives, Khagendra dedicated three years to creating meaningful impact. The anticipation of weekends wasn’t about personal relaxation but about the joy of teaching and empowering young minds.
His experience at Bhumi instilled in him a deep passion for community service, eventually inspiring him to establish Samaksh, an NGO dedicated to the holistic development of underprivileged communities in Chhattisgarh. Samaksh follows a participative model, ensuring that both children and adults have access to education, essential amenities, and opportunities for skill development. Every community supported by Samaksh is also equipped with libraries and cooperation centers to foster learning and small-scale entrepreneurship.
However, Khagendra’s journey was not without challenges. One of the biggest hurdles he faced was earning the trust of local communities, many of whom were skeptical about NGOs. He knew that genuine change could not be forced, it had to be built through understanding and mutual respect. By prioritizing community relationships and embracing cultural values, he gradually bridged this gap and strengthened Samaksh’s impact.
Reflecting on his journey, Khagendra believes that change doesn’t come from a single grand gesture, it begins with small, meaningful contributions. “Don’t try to change the world overnight.
