Inspiring Legacy of Hemant Dugar: A Journey of Growth and Impact

Hemant Dugar, a dedicated Bhumi volunteer from Kolkata, has been an inspiration to many with his commitment to education and community service.

Growing up in Kolkata, Hemant completed his B.Com from Calcutta University. His journey in teaching began during his college days, where he taught students from across the globe, including the USA, Europe, Middle East, and Australia. This experience shaped his passion for education, but it was the lockdown that ignited his desire to teach underprivileged children in his own city.

Hemant’s initial days with Bhumi in August 2022 were filled with apprehension. Accustomed to teaching older students, he was unsure how to engage with younger children. However, a breakthrough came when he conducted a class on time management at a center in Kolkata. The session, attended by 40-50 enthusiastic kids, extended beyond its scheduled time as the children eagerly absorbed his teachings. This experience boosted his confidence and marked the beginning of his regular involvement in teaching children.

Today, Hemant is a content curator for Bhumi’s Lakshya team, creating engaging and educational content tailored to the needs of the children. He emphasizes the importance of adapting lessons to the children’s interests and needs, often incorporating fun and creativity into his teaching methods. Hemant believes that education should go hand in hand with enjoyment, ensuring that learning becomes a cherished experience for every child.

Beyond his volunteer work, Hemant leads a life filled with diverse interests. He loves traveling, exploring new cultures, and reading about the lives of inspirational figures and unique places around the world. His adventures have taken him to remote villages and unique communities, providing him with rich experiences that he often shares with his students.

Hemant’s commitment to education stems from his belief in its transformative power. He recalls an incident from his school days when a teacher’s punishment for his poor performance motivated him to become a better educator. He wanted to ensure that no child feels left out or misunderstood in their learning journey. This drive has been a cornerstone of his teaching philosophy at Bhumi.

One of Hemant’s proudest achievements is his work with the Lakshya team. The flexibility to adapt lessons based on the children’s needs has allowed him to make a significant impact. Whether it’s teaching basic English, Mathematics, or Life skills, Hemant ensures that every lesson is relevant and engaging. His approach of integrating real-world knowledge and Life skills into the curriculum has helped many children gain a broader perspective and develop essential skills for their future.

Hemant’s motivation and inspiration come from his elder brother, who has been a constant support throughout his life. Additionally, he draws inspiration from the entrepreneurial spirit of Steve Jobs, striving for perfection in everything he does. Hemant’s meticulous planning and dedication to making every lesson impactful reflect his commitment to providing the best possible education to the children he teaches.

Despite his extensive teaching experience, Hemant remains humble and grounded. He values personal connections over social media presence, focusing on the direct impact he can make through one-on-one interactions. His journey with Bhumi showcases the profound difference one individual can make in the lives of many through dedication, passion, and a genuine desire to give back to the community. #HumansOfBhumi
