In a conversation with dynamic Bhumi Fellows, we discovered how their innovative ideas make a difference in the classroom. They all hail from different cities but share a common mission—transforming Indian education and shaping young minds. 

In this July edition, we are excited to delve into the transformative journeys of educators and changemakers, sharing insights and experiences that have shaped their paths. 

Meet the Fellows:

Harish B: From Thiruppur, completed a Bachelor’s in Commerce, excited to change teaching methods in classrooms.

Madhumitha: From Trichy, a young adult aiming to spark young minds.

Avlin: From Ernakulam, Kerala. Passionate about teaching and social work, united in making changes.

Thenuka: From Chennai, identifying herself as a Bhumian in the process.

Arya M: From Thirussur, upholding authenticity and creativity.

Aishwarya Dadhich: From Ajmer, Rajasthan, a simple girl with big dreams.

What’s something new you’ve learned or experienced during your fellowship so far?

Harish B: Self-Realization
Madhumitha: Learning about different stakeholders and the workings of the social sector
Avlin: Adaptability, Communication, and Listening skills
Thenuka: Realization about self through the River of Life exercise
Arya: Technical aspects of the curriculum, education, Ennum Ezhuthum

How would you convince your best friend to be a Bhumi Fellow and share your journey?

Madhumitha: If you want to kickstart a career where you can learn, develop, explore, and create social change, come join the Bhumi Fellowship, my buddy!

Arya: By telling them about Basecamp, which trains you to be a better educator in interesting and informative ways. It’s like a capsule for long-term educational training, equipping you with essential skills for the education sector.

What is one skill you’re developing/would like to develop through your fellowship journey?

Harish B: Adaptability and taking responsibility in teamwork
Madhumitha: Resilience and patience
Avlin: Communication and teaching skills; adjusting to different perspectives
Thenuka: Planning and implementation
Aishwarya: Lesson delivery
Arya M: Effective communication and documentation

If you could time-travel, what would you change or add to the classrooms of India?

Harish B: Improve infrastructure and classroom culture
Madhumitha: Transform traditional classroom setups
Avlin: Change the authority/hierarchy in classrooms
Thenuka: Create creative spaces and calm corners in every classroom
Arya M: Integrate social-emotional learning and activity-based approaches
